Indigo Pulse is a studio jazz project exploring rhythm, texture, and harmonic color inside a contemporary jazz frame. Some pieces move through odd meters and asymmetrical grooves; others begin from more familiar foundations — ballads, bossa-influenced motion, swing, or post-bebop phrasing. Across those settings, the goal is not complexity for its own sake, but a more elastic sense of time: music that feels spacious, melodic, and quietly unpredictable.

Future releases continue that search in new rhythmic environments, including Latin and Afro-Cuban-influenced material where the pulse may be recognizable, but the forms, textures, and instrumentation are allowed to drift beyond traditional templates.

What I like so much about Indigo Pulse (other than their quite-accurate album name These Are Odd Times) is how they take the typical skeletal instrumentation of jazz and transform it with elements like soul, saxophone, whipping percussion, and overall retro/futuristic tonality. This is perfectly exemplified in one of my favorite tracks from the LP, entitled “Seventh Step.”
